It was packed full of young girls in bottom-skimming denim shorts and older women trying to look sexy in tailored hot pants. It was not a scene for the faint-hearted. It is stating the obvious to say only the honed and toned can get away with a fashion item that exposes so much flesh  -  you can see every ripple of cellulite, and pity the woman whose thigh has even the slightest bit of wobble. Daisy Dukes: Jessica Simpson wears the denim hotpants made famous by the TV series, The Dukes of HazzarsYet this summer, women of all ages are getting out their inner Daisy Duke  -  the hot-pant wearing character in the Seventies TV series, The Dukes Of Hazzard  -  and investing in a pair of shorts the size of a hanky. I have seen some women wearing them rolled up so high they expose their knickers. And others who wear them so tight that when they sit down their thighs squelch over the top. Argh! So can any age wear them  -  or is there a point where flashing so much flesh looks too attentionseeking? Unforgiving: Lily Allen, left, Victoria Beckham, and Dannii Minogue, right, have all fallen victim to the shorts trendLast week, I found myself in the designer shop Joseph, trying on a pair of very short cut-off denims. I am in my mid-40s and, while my legs are toned and tanned, I had visions of looking like mutton dressed as lamb. In the name of research, I wore them out that evening (teamed with a blazer and flat shoes) and, surprisingly, my male friends told me they looked sexy. Which brings me to my next point: how do you wear this look without stumbling into stripper territory? If you are over 40, avoid tight tops, too much cleavage and stilettos. Wear your shorts baggy, with flat gladiator sandals  -  and enjoy. Share what you think No comments have so far been submitted.
