I love your banner, but I have to page down to see your work! I almost thought you didn't submit an assignment at first. No worries now that I know, but something to think about in the future.Great job connecting uniformitarianism as a response to catastrophism. Well done. Nice description of Lyell's work as well.I'm okay with the bullet point you selected, but frankly, the major contribution of Lyell's work to Darwin was the gift of TIME. You do mention this later in that paragraph, so good for you for highlighting that and making that connection.I actually think Lyell is one of those scientists that may come close to being irreplacable to Darwin, meaning I do wonder if Darwin would have developed his ideas without Lyell, not only with his give of an old earth, but also because of the friendly support Lyell offered to Darwin. He was invaluable.Great post. I thought your point about uniformitarianism was interesting; I’ve never heard of that theory before. From what you said, I think that Lyell’s work was totally essential to Darwin’s studies and conclusions. I agree that Darwin’s ideas about natural adaptation occurring over a long period of time probably stem from Lyell’s assertions that the earth must be old because less catastrophic forces take a lot longer to reshape the earth’s surface.
