By Inge MaskunMany of you have heard through the news that parts of our lovely city, Duluth, were affected by the recent downpour. For almost two days the lingering heavy rainfall caused much damage, closing parts of I-35, schools and businesses. Our neighboring business, Lake Superior Zoo, lost a few of their inhabitants. Our thoughts go out to them and all the staff who are heartbroken. Our campground is fortunate, we are on higher ground. On Wednesday, the day after the massive flooding, the sun broke through the clouds early in the afternoon bringing much needed sunshine that helped dry up some puddles. Visitors who stuck with their travel plans checked into their sites smoothly. We received quite a number of “walk-ins” who needed a place to relax and recharge after a long drive navigating through some detours. Thursday business was brisk as we welcomed the first day of summer. Our first weekend after the city floods is full of happy campers. Duluth tourism business is certainly alive and well.We are fortunate not only because the floods skipped our campground, but most importantly because our visitors -- the veterans and the newcomers – are keeping us in their minds. We received many e-mails from upcoming campers who are concerned about our city. We also received phone calls from visitors who were with us before the massive flooding started; we thank all who send their thoughts and prayers, concerns and supportive attitude. Our hearts are smiling; thank you for making Duluth Indian Point Campground part of your summer travel.Weather forecast for the next one week is mostly sunny with a couple of partly cloudy days. So come on over, we are fine; we look forward to having you. Stay well and travel safely."Don't knock the weather; nine-tenths of the people couldn't start a conversation if it didn't change once in a while." ~Kin HubbardCampsites & RatesMap & directions
