Johann Sebastian Bach's Suite No. 1 in E Minor is the first of his four lute suites, arranged for 4.3-octave marimba by Todd Ukena. This lovely piece translates very well over to the marimba since the instrument shares many similar tonal and technical similarities.Like most Baroque suites, this piece is written in six movements based on dances: Prelude, Allemande, Courante, Sarabande, Bouree, and Gigue. By far the most famous movement of this suite is the Bouree. This work is challenging on a lute, and even more so on a marimba. Only the most accomplished players will be able to play most of the movements at the written tempo, usually requiring each hand to play very fast scalar and arpeggiated passages by themselves.Alternatively, the challenge could be greatly alleviated by turning this into a marimba duet! Everybody likes some Bach now and then, and this suite would fit very well on any recital or a gig in need of some nice Baroque music. This piece has been arranged for a 4.3-octave marimba, but nearly all of it can be played one octave lower than written for a richer and deeper sound.Difficulty: Medium + to Advanced +Duration: 2:00-4:00 per movement, 14:00 totalBecause of copyright issues, we cannot accept returns on sheet music, books, audio CDs, and DVDs.
