Before you think this post is for the less-informed reader, look closely and you’ll find something interesting – the front-end is from the updated Xylo.The acrylic vertical slabs that form the grille and bumper are direct carryovers from the facelifted Xylo’s parts store room. This spyshot clarifies doubts posed on the design option Mahindra will take with the compact Xylo. Then came spyshots of the Sail sedan, and many readers wrote in requesting the Indian plan for this vehicle. To address that, moments ago Kaustubh posted an update on GM India commenting on the model’s late-2012 launch date.Now Indian Autos Blog reader Anjeesh spotted the Sail sedan testing in Pune. We’ve provided you a comprehensive look of the car’s interiors very recently through Satyajeet Bhaskare’s pictures of a mule from a parking lot.The Etios rival is a product of SAIC (GM’s Chinese partner), developed in China to make an affordable vehicle for the Chinese middle class. The company only launched a few variants of its existing lineup to keep the sales trickling in. However, because of no new launches the company saw a flat growth for the year 2011. General Motors India sold 111,150 cars in 2011, a mere 345-unit growth over the 110,805 units sold the previous year. The American automaker is determined to change all of that in the current year. The company has aggressive plans for the year 2012 which includes 3 new products and 2 refreshes.The 3 new products that the company is talking about were showcased at the 2012 New Delhi Auto Expo. The existing Aveo twins will be replaced by the Sail models. A new MPV, expected to be called 'Njoy', will join the product line. These three new products have been developed by the SAIC joint venture and have been testing in since the last year.The Chevrolet Tavera has been already replaced by the BSIV complaint variant Tavera Neo. Finally, the Captiva is all set to get a facelift and a new engine in this year. Unfortunately, these 'aggressive plans' do not include the Cruze facelift which was showcased at the Geneva Motor show.Among these new products, GM is betting maximum on the Sail twins. The vehicle has already been unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show last week, but this is the first time (correct me if I’m wrong) the car has been spotted in the wilderness.Without the flood lights and the booth babes, we’re able to notice the changes on the new i20 sans distractions or optical enhancements.The front of the Hyundai i20 facelift has gained fat, a pair of sharp and connected headlights, LED light clusters on the circumference of the redesigned fog lights and what looks like a V-Shaped acrylic panel hosting the emblem.Under the hood Hyundai will improve both its mainstay engines – the 1.2 Kappa is bolstered with variable valve timing technology promising to improve drivability and fuel economy while the 1.4 CRDI receives less significant upgrades. For the European customers, Hyundai provides a new 1.1-liter diesel engine which will be the least polluting conventional internal combustion engine and take you to the moon and back in one tank of diesel. Hyundai India may save this engine for another day, perhaps strap it to the next generation i10 (code – BA) expected in late 2013.According to the press release issued in Geneva, Hyundai has made significant progress in reducing the NVH department, the dashboard rattling is minimized, thanks to reinforcements and use of more sound deadening materials. The steering system setting have also been altered and the mounting points on the frame for the engine and gearbox have been tweaked to lower vibrations.The i20 has grown about 55mm in length due to the redesigned bumpers but width and wheelbase see no changes. The car’s length is under four meters and we hear from our sources that prices may not vary on the upgraded variants.Expect the new i20 in Indian showrooms in early April.
