The company believes that in another 3-5 years, this could happen. Land Rover assembles the Freelander at Tata’s plant in Pune and could use the same facility, after it is expanded, to build Jaguar cars as well. Before cars, JLR will make engines in India. The company has plans to open a manufacturing facility for engines that can be used on utility vehicles of Tata Motors. Manufacturing engines in India can help pass duty benefits to customers. We have heard that engineers from Britain and India are working jointly to develop engines to meet future emission norms. These engine are expected to be superior in every aspect and give products like the Aria and Safari an edge over its competitors. It was previously reported in the media that platform sharing possibility is also being explored between JLR and Tata Motors.[Source - MyDigitalFC.com] Bumper To Bumper – The mini SUV chapter in India Posted: 13 Mar 2012 05:28 AM PDTIn today’s Bumper To Bumper video, I’m pointing out three outcomes or factors that SUVs such as the Renault Duster and Ford EcoSport bring to India.can’t see the video above? Before you think this post is for the less-informed reader, look closely and you’ll find something interesting – the front-end is from the updated Xylo. The acrylic vertical slabs that form the grille and bumper are direct carryovers from the facelifted Xylo’s parts store room. This spyshot clarifies doubts posed on the design option Mahindra will take with the compact Xylo. Some believed the older design would live on in the mini Xylo which is codenamed U203.Mahindra is also reworking the refinement of the three-cylinder diesel engine, a derivative of the 2.2-liter mHawk engine used on the Xylo and Scorpio. As we reported in a previous post, engineers were asked to return with a more refined engine.Shoeb's mini Xylo rendering has the Xylo facelift's nose and an aircraft window at the C-PillarWe have also seen a seven seat version last year with two tiny jump seats through spyshots. Mahindra will call the mini Xylo as a mini SUV and launch it before the festival season.[Spyshot sourced from Facebook.com/MotorVikatan] Check out the cobweb alloys on this Ford EcoSport mule Posted: 13 Mar 2012 02:04 AM PDTBy this time our readers can write a thousand word essay on the topic ‘Ford EcoSport for India’. It has been a constant endeavor here at IAB to bring readers even the most minute of details on the two mini SUVs everyone is waiting to see.The EcoSport project is close to Ford Brazil’s heart. The sales success of the previous generation model, based on the Mk5 Fiesta, gave Ford reasons to look at other markets to introduce it.Testing of the next generation model shown as an almost production-ready concept at Delhi two months before, has been going on for the last few months near the Bahia plant where it will be manufactured this year with 1-1.6 liter flex engines. The new spyshot posted on Blogdoecosport reveals alloy wheels detailed like a cobweb. Manufacturers stay away from designing complicated alloy wheels, one of the reasons being cost. It is left to the after market industry to come up with ideas that are creative. For a change, in the affordable segments, we may see alloy wheels with a pressing design directly from an OEM.Ford India, please bring these down to our showrooms also![Source - Blogdoecosport.blogspot.in] Chevrolet Sail sedan caught testing; Launch in late 2012 Posted: 13 Mar 2012 12:36 AM PDTGeneral Motors unveiled the Sail hatchback at the Delhi Auto Expo and we were told by our sources that GM is preparing to launch the Swift rival in mid-2012. Then came spyshots of the Sail sedan, and many readers wrote in requesting the Indian plan for this vehicle. To address that, moments ago Kaustubh posted an update on GM India commenting on the model’s late-2012 launch date. Now Indian Autos Blog reader Anjeesh spotted the Sail sedan testing in Pune. We’ve provided you a comprehensive look of the car’s interiors very recently through Satyajeet Bhaskare’s pictures of a mule from a parking lot.The Etios rival is a product of SAIC (GM’s Chinese partner), developed in China to make an affordable vehicle for the Chinese middle class. GM brought the model to India and trained it to speak the local language.  The Sail twins are propelled by the Fiat-licensed 1.3-liter Multijet diesel engine. General Motors has a 1.4-liter petrol engine which it can put through a Smartech program, for short distance users. The suspension setting have also been changed. These cars are heavily localized allowing GM to price them very well. These cars have a simplistic approach to design and feel. Much like the Etios or the Indigo, they are built to be price warriors and not to feel plush or posh. They may find a large chunk of takers in the taxi market.General Motors will use the Sail twins to replace the Aveo siblings. General Motors to get aggressive in 2012; No Cruze facelift planned Posted: 12 Mar 2012 11:58 PM PDTGeneral Motors was a in a consolidation phase in 2011 and hence did not launch any new models in the last year. The company only launched a few variants of its existing lineup to keep the sales trickling in. However, because of no new launches the company saw a flat growth for the year 2011. General Motors India sold 111,150 cars in 2011, a mere 345-unit growth over the 110,805 units sold the previous year. The American automaker is determined to change all of that in the current year. The company has aggressive plans for the year 2012 which includes 3 new products and 2 refreshes. The 3 new products that the company is talking about were showcased at the 2012 New Delhi Auto Expo. The existing Aveo twins will be replaced by the Sail models. A new MPV, expected to be called 'Njoy', will join the product line. These three new products have been developed by the SAIC joint venture and have been testing in since the last year. The Chevrolet Tavera has been already replaced by the BSIV complaint variant Tavera Neo. Finally, the Captiva is all set to get a facelift and a new engine in this year. Unfortunately, these 'aggressive plans' do not include the Cruze facelift which was showcased at the Geneva Motor show.Among these new products, GM is betting maximum on the Sail twins. The Sail Twins (hatchback & sedan) will be squarely aimed against Toyota's Etios twins (Etios & Liva) and Maruti Suzuki Swift twins (Swift & Dzire). GM will introduce both products in segments that have been witnessing maximum growth. On an average, 39,000 premium compacts and 20,000 entry-level sedans are sold in the country every month.GM aims to treble sales to 300,000 units in India by 2013. The company is planning to launch five new vehicles together with SAIC over the next eighteen months. Both Halol & Talegaon plant can currently manufacture 250,000 vehicles annually.[Source: business-standard.com] Facelifted Hyundai i20 LHD model with LED clusters spotted with no camouflage Posted: 12 Mar 2012 11:13 PM PDTOur regular reader Sharav Venkatesh has loaded us with pictures of Hyundai i20 facelift captured in the outskirts of Chennai. The vehicle has already been unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show last week, but this is the first time (correct me if I’m wrong) the car has been spotted in the wilderness.Without the flood lights and the booth babes, we’re able to notice the changes on the new i20 sans distractions or optical enhancements. The front of the Hyundai i20 facelift has gained fat, a pair of sharp and connected headlights, LED light clusters on the circumference of the redesigned fog lights and what looks like a V-Shaped acrylic panel hosting the emblem.Under the hood Hyundai will improve both its mainstay engines – the 1.2 Kappa is bolstered with variable valve timing technology promising to improve drivability and fuel economy while the 1.4 CRDI receives less significant upgrades. For the European customers, Hyundai provides a new 1.1-liter diesel engine which will be the least polluting conventional internal combustion engine and take you to the moon and back in one tank of diesel. Hyundai India may save this engine for another day, perhaps strap it to the next generation i10 (code – BA) expected in late 2013.According to the press release issued in Geneva, Hyundai has made significant progress in reducing the NVH department, the dashboard rattling is minimized, thanks to reinforcements and use of more sound deadening materials. The steering system setting have also been altered and the mounting points on the frame for the engine and gearbox have been tweaked to lower vibrations. The i20 has grown about 55mm in length due to the redesigned bumpers but width and wheelbase see no changes. The car’s length is under four meters and we hear from our sources that prices may not vary on the upgraded variants.Expect the new i20 in Indian showrooms in early April.
